Hello from Borealis Basecamp! We're constantly inspired by the beauty of the Interior Alaska wilderness and the amazing northern lights that dance in our skies. Our goal has always been to share this magic with you in the most memorable way possible.
This summer, we've made big upgrades on our property to give you more options for staying, eating, and playing. From brand-new family-friendly rooms to more casual dining spots and thrilling new adventures, there’s even more to love about your favorite northern lights destination.

More Places to Stay: Our New Igloos and Family-Friendly Cubes
The heart of the Borealis Basecamp experience is watching the aurora from the comfort of your own bed. There's truly nothing like lying back and gazing through a 16-foot curved window as ribbons of green and purple light shimmer across the night sky. Our custom-built fiberglass igloos are designed to give you a front-row seat to this show, and they’ve become so popular that we wanted to give more guests the chance to experience them.
That’s why we’re excited to announce that we've added five new igloos! This brings our total number of igloos to 36. Each one is a cozy, private escape with a surprisingly spacious interior, a full ensuite bathroom, and of course, and your own beverage station for that essential cup of hot coffee or tea while you wait for the lights to appear. By adding more igloos, we hope to welcome even more of you to chase the aurora borealis with us.
We also have expanded options for those traveling with family. Introducing our two new adjoining Cube Suites. We designed these unique rooms to solve a common challenge: finding comfortable, family-friendly lodging for an Alaska adventure. The Cube Suites feature stunning, floor-to-ceiling windows that provide a massive viewing area for the northern lights.
The best part for families is the clever layout. Imagine your kids getting to sleep in their very own treehouse-style bunk beds, excited for a night in their special perch. Meanwhile, you can relax in the main living area and enjoy your own separate space and the spectacular view. It’s the perfect way for everyone to have a little privacy while still sharing an unforgettable experience together.

A Taste of Alaska: Expanded Dining for Every Appetite
Exploring the boreal forest and chasing the aurora can work up a serious appetite. We've expanded our dining options to make sure you're well-fed with delicious, locally-focused food throughout your stay. Whether you're looking for a special multi-course dinner or a quick and casual bite, we have you covered.
Our beautiful geodesic dome restaurant, Latitude 65, remains the centerpiece of our dining experience. It's the perfect place for a more formal, sit-down dinner where you can savor multiple courses prepared by our talented chefs. The menu proudly features local Alaska ingredients, giving you a true taste of the north.
For those looking for a more laid-back atmosphere, we invite you to pull up a chair at our new casual dining spot, The Pub. We sought to create a cozy and casual space where guests can unwind and share stories from their day. The menu is packed with elevated pub fare, from gourmet burgers made with local beef to fresh-caught Alaska sockeye salmon. It’s the kind of satisfying, feel-good food that hits the spot after a day out in the snow.
For something quick and easy, drop by the Basecamp Café. Operating out of a comfortable yurt near our new adventure center, the Café is your go-to for coffee, hot chocolate, pastries, and lunch. It’s ideal for grabbing a bite before you head out on a tour or for warming up when you get back. On a clear day, the view is incredible—you can even see the distant peaks of Denali while you sip your coffee!

More Ways to Adventure: New Activities and Amenities
While viewing the northern lights is the main event, the daytime adventures at Borealis Basecamp are just as exciting. We’ve added a host of new activities and amenities, all managed out of our brand-new Adventure Center, a massive 50-foot yurt that serves as your hub for exploration.
Here are some of the thrilling new ways you can explore the wilderness:
- Arctic Truck Excursions: Climb aboard a custom-built exploration vehicle designed to handle the rugged Alaska terrain with ease. With oversized tires and a warm, 360-degree clear enclosure, you’ll have amazing panoramic views as you journey through the forest to chase a breathtaking sunset.
- Scenic Helicopter Flights: We've partnered with Alpine Air Alaska to offer an epic new adventure: scenic helicopter flights that take off right from Borealis Basecamp! There’s no need to travel elsewhere. You can lift off from camp and soar over the majestic White Mountains, getting a stunning bird’s-eye view of the vast, untouched landscape below.
New Three-Hour Snowmobile Tour: For the true adventurer who wants to go deeper into the backcountry, we’ve created a new, extended three-hour snowmobile tour. This longer ride gives you more time to explore remote trails, find incredible viewpoints, and truly immerse yourself in the quiet beauty of the boreal forest. (Insider tip: If you want to impress your guide, refer to it as a "snowmachine" - that is what they are called by Alaskans!)

Options for Wellness and Relaxation
After a full day of adventure, there’s no better way to unwind than with some heat. We’ve installed two new barrel saunas for you to enjoy. These cozy, 8-by-12-foot saunas are perfect for soothing tired muscles and warming up from the inside out. It's a classic northern tradition and the perfect end to an action-packed Alaska day.
We’re so excited to share these new and improved experiences with you. Our goal is to make every part of your trip—from where you sleep to what you eat to how you play—as magical as the northern lights themselves.
